Last Wednesday, I called four hospitals and the Northbrook Cancer Wellness Center to spread the word about my program. Nobody answered, so I left five messages. The next day, a woman from the Cancer Wellness Center called me back. She said she thought my idea was brilliant and that she could see it being implemented next school year. She forwarded my information to another woman at the Wellness Center and told me that if I didn't hear back from that woman by the next week I should call her back. Today, I called her back, and she emailed my name and number to the woman. I'm feeling pretty optimistic about this new opportunity, and I look forward to hearing back from her.
After sending out a bunch of emails and getting very few replies, I was finally able to set up a tutoring session. Last Sunday, I tutored a boy whose brother is a two-time cancer survivor. It felt great to help him with his school work, and having his brother shake my hand and thank me was incredible. I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity, and I look forward to expanding my program.
Today, my goal was to send out emails to people involved in cancer wellness and tell them about my program. I was able to send out a total of 21 emails! Now, I'm waiting for responses and looking for more people to contact.
